Engines

For us, it's unlikely the thrill of making great engines will ever wear off.

Finnessing what's under the new beetle's hood takes more than just precision, great know-how, and craftsmanship. It takes passion. Not to mention creativity and a willingness to push you're gray cells to the limit. Huddled over the engine, we'll reduce the angle between the cylinder banks by fractions of a millimeter to save space. Cut down the weight of the intake manifold so the car has more oomph off the line. Or develop specially designed ports around the valves to create air swirl, making for better diesel performance. Some might consider all this engine stuff engineering. Us? We consider it an art form. And we have three priceless works for you to choose from:

2.0L

This engine benefits from a simple and true design. (some wouldsay it's a classic). Its compact, pretty light weight, and requires less space under the hood - all of which goes to providing smooth engine performance. To top it all off, it offers lowered emissions too.

  TDI

Our most fuel-efficient engine has faster cold starting than most conventional diesels. It's lighter and delivers lots of low-end torque for initial acceleration. It goes without saying you get more miles for the money, but an added bonus is not having to go for tune-ups as often as you might for other engines.

1.8T

Light in weight, compact in design, this engine has five valves per cylinder. That means that are breathing for enhanced performance. Coupled with a Turbo, you get high torque starting with low RPM so you're quicker off the line. And high horsepower at high RPM. provides exceptional passing power. Your fuel economy is improved*, and there are lowered emissions, too.
