Engines

For us, it's unlikely the thrill of making great engines will ever wear off.

A lot of the GTI magic we love so much takes place under the hood. And while conjuring up engine wizardry takes precision and craftsmanship, there's more to it than that. Creativity and a willingness to push the ol' gray cells to the limit are a must. Huddled over the front of the car, we'll reduce the angle between the cylinder banks by fractions of a millimetre to save space. Cut down the weight of the intake manifold so the car has more oomph off the line. And while we're at it, throw a bypass valve into the turbocharger to ensure minimal turbo lag. Some might consider what we do simply engineering. We consider it an art form. Here are some gems to choose from.

1.8T

Light in weight, compact in design, this engine has five valves per cylinder. That means that are breathing for enhanced performance. Coupled with a Turbo, you get high torque starting with low RPM so you're quicker off the line. And high horsepower at high RPM. provides exceptional passing power. Your fuel economy is improved*, and there are lowered emissions, too.

Tiptronic

By linking a Tiptronic transmission to the engines, you get an automatic that functions like a manual. To drive in automatic, just leave the selector in the "D" position. For manual, slide the selector to the right and push forward to upshift, or pull backward to downshift. You've got choices. Take advantage.

VR6

More rim and less tire provide better cornering and more accurate turns. This five-spoke design also evokes strength and momentum even when the GTI is at a red light. So you're moving when you're standing still. Kind of.
